Various techniques and appliances are used including pre-adjusted edgewise, tip-edge and functional appliances. The use of digital cameras is currently being introduced.

The School of Dentistry is part of the Leeds Dental Institute which also includes the Leeds Dental Hospital of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The Institute is semi-autonomous within the University and the Trust and is responsible in particular for its own organisational arrangements. Postgraduate research and training is offered by the Institute in the Divisions of Child Dental Health, Dental Surgery, Oral Biology and Restorative Dentistry.

Core, Clinical, Research and Specialty modules, which include facial growth, treatment of various types of malocclusion, consent, the extraction vs. non-extraction debate, orthodontic materials and setting up in Orthodontic practice.
