  • Objectives
    This new masters/postgraduate diploma offers the opportunity for registered health professionals to develop a new career pathway within the health service. It also offers a new route into professional healthcare practice for graduates with a life sciences degree who do not currently have a professional l healthcare registration. The diploma enables you to develop skills in medical patient assessment and management within acute and chronic care. You will also undertake integrated practice placements. You can also progress to an MSc degree by completion of a health project in a professional or clinical area which reflects your interests and career aspirations. On graduation, you will have the skills to assist Physicians in providing and managing acute and chronic medical care in a variety of settings.

    Practice placements are an integral part of the course and will be within local healthcare trusts and general practice.

    Careers

    The role of the Physician’s Assistant is currently being explored by NHS Trusts, GP Practices and the Armed Services and employment opportunities are likely to develop within these areas.

    Teaching methods

    Modules are associated with practice which constitutes approximately 50% of the programme. The delivery is over two extended academic years and therefore students are required to attend theory/practice over a 45 week period in each year of the programme.
