The course is accredited by the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain and provides postgraduate training in independent and supplementary prescribing for pharmacists in Northern Ireland.
Entrance Requirements A primary degree in Pharmacy from an institution approved by the University. All students must have: • Two year post-registration experience, • The support of their sponsoring organisation, • Identified a designated medical practitioner prior to commencing the course. Postgraduate Certificate in Independent Prescribing for Pharmacists
Six taught modules:
-Developing a Treatment/Clinical Management Plan
-Clinical Examination Skills and Patient Monitoring
-Evidence-based Practice and Clinical Governance
-Influences on Psychology of Prescribing
-Legal, Policy, Professional and Ethical Aspects
Plus 12 x 7.5 days in-practice training with a designated medical practitioner.
Assignments, OSCE and practice portfolio.

Opportunities for Careers
Pharmacists who complete this programme are eligible to register as a Independent Prescriber with the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.
