More about the course
If you are a working professional, this work-based learning approach enables you to obtain a Master’s degree without the need to take significant time off work. The degree capitalises on your company-specific knowledge and experience, and we help you to identify relevant self-study requirements to provide additional learning, knowledge of application and demonstration of skill-sets leading to institution membership and registration for Chartered Engineer status. With advice and support from a member of our academic staff and the support of your sponsoring company, you prepare a tailored individual learning contract, taking into account your present and future work-based activities and any constraints in terms of learning opportunities.
This Master’s programme is work-based as far as possible and is flexible on start dates and duration. You would normally study for three years: two years to complete the work-based learning modules and a further year to complete an individual project. You need to achieve 180 credit points for a Master’s degree and would normally be expected to take 60 credit points of study in each academic year. The programme is based upon the requirements of UK-SPEC, which is the standard for recognition of professional engineers in the UK - and includes eight 15-credit point modules plus a 60-credit point project which you undertake once you have completed the other modules. You must complete your studies within five years.
