Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) (MSc) - At the institution - Belfast - Belfast - Belfast - Northern Ireland
Upon successful completion of the course participants should be able to: · Describe and evaluate key aspects of the English language system for teaching purposes; · Critically evaluate the main approaches to the teaching and learning of TESOL in a variety of contexts; · Demonstrate awareness of current issues in TESOL in a variety of contexts: Understand and utilise findings from empirical studies; design and evaluate small-scale research studies for investigating your own teaching context. The MSc/MEd are awarded to those students who have accumulated 180 M Points (including a dissertation equivalent to 60 M points).
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Applicants should normally hold either an honours degree or equivalent qualification plus at least two years professional experience in an education, training or professionally relevant context; or a degree or equivalent qualification with at least five years professional experience in an education, training or professionally relevant context; or a degree or equivalent qualification in an area relevant to the subject of the masters degree, where study towards the award is not dependent on relevant professional experience. (This third route to admission will normally only apply to appropriate MSc options and may be restricted to holders of II.2 honours degree or higher qualifications.) ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS In the case of international students (from outside the European Union), it is not possible to study on a part-time basis unless you are already in the UK for other reasons and have obtained an appropriate visa. It is the student’s responsibility to check visa requirements for part-time study in the UK. We have a minimum entry point of IELTS level 6.5 or equivalent for international students.
Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) (MSc)
This is a professionally-oriented higher degree aimed at graduates who intend to follow a career in ELT. Students who have successfully completed the course have found it very beneficial in gaining employment. The course will enable participants to gain knowledge and skills necessary for devising and teaching effective English Language courses, and research and analytical skills necessary for keeping abreast of rapid developments in the field. One of the key features of the MSc TESOL is the emphasis on learning through interaction; much of the course is organised around class-based data as a means of fostering awareness of classroom issues.
