  This hands on programme enables you to develop a wide range of practical conservation and restoration skills and to build on existing expertise. The programme provides you with advanced practical and theoretical skills, - together with an awareness of the application of principles of management to the field of conservation. This provides a sound basis for employment in the heritage sector both in the UK and abroad.
  
  Units
  
  Conservation Management
  
  The MA in Conservation of Historic Objects includes the advanced study of management as applied to the field of conservation.
  
  Collections Management
  
  Using scientific analysis and evaluation of the internal and external environment supported by theoretical study, students are taught a thorough understanding of preventative conservation, collections management and the causes of deterioration in historic objects.
  
  Interpreting Objects
  
  Through practical workshops, visiting lectures and visits, students consider the interpretation of the technology, manufacture and analysis of historic objects.
  
  Negotiated Theory and Practice
  
  There is a considerable focus on the practical treatments of complex composite objects. This involves hart of the taught elements supported by many hours of supervised workshop access.
  
  Research Methods in Conservation
  
  A research methods unit prepares students for their Research Project which is undertaken during the summer semester. This can be conducted within the university, or outside, for instance, in a museum or laboratory in the UK or overseas.

  Students have worked on vacation placements in museums in the UK and abroad including, National Museum of Scotland, National Museums and Galleries Merseyside, Lincoln Cathedral, Resouration Sans Frontiers Istanbul , University of Florence
  
  Entry into the MA Conservation programme which has an excellent employment record with students working in: National Museums Cyprus, National Trust, Leather Conservation Centre, Asmolean Museum Oxford, National Museums Scotland, St Louis Museum, Brunei Museum
  
  Platform for other fields within the Heritage Sector
  
  All Conservation tutors are accredited conservators with a wide range of professional experience in museum and the heritage industry
  
  Lincoln now has the largest centre in the UK for teaching conservation and restoration skills with over 25 years experience. The unit has strong links with local, regional and national museums, professional bodies and agencies in the heritage field.
