BA Applied Biomedical Science

  • Objectives Accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science this full-time programme has two possible modes of study: you can choose a four-year sandwich degree undertaking a one-year placement after the second year of study. This route provides eligibility for end-point verification of training for the IBMS Certificate of Competence. Alternatively, part-way through Year 1 you can apply for an integrated trainee placement element comprising three placements – ten weeks in Year 1, ten weeks in Year 2, and six weeks in Year 3. Successful completion of this element fulfils the Health Professions Council requirements for registration
  • Entry requirements Entry requirements * 260-320 points with a minimum of 240 points from at least two full 6-unit awards or one full 12-unit award plus one full 6-unit award * Post-16 qualifications should include a science subject at A2 Level * You should have GCSE English and Maths at Grade C or above, or Key Skills Communication and Application of Number at Level 2 * If you've got other qualifications or relevant experience - check out the UCAS tariff conversion table via the UCAS website * Interviews for work placements take place during the first semester of your first year. Those not selected for a placement will proceed on BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science

    -Your choice of Year 1 study topics includes: Chemistry for Biosciences; Human Form Human Function; Human Health: Disease Prevention and Treatment; Human Physiology; Infection and Immunity; Molecules and Cells in Health and Disease; and Professional Studies in Healthcare Science.
     
    -In Year 2, you could choose: Biology of Disease; Biomedical Science Practicals; Immunology; Integrated Physiology and Metabolism; and Principles of Disease Investigation.
     
    -The final year offers a selection of modules such as: Advanced Topics in Healthcare Science; Cellular Pathology; Clinical Biochemistry; Clinical Immunology; Evidence-based Practice; Haematology and Transfusion Science; Honours Project; Human Development; Medical Genetics; and Medical Microbiology and Public Health.
