BA Media Studies

  • Objectives This lively course gives you a foundation in media theory as well as opportunities to engage in creative media production through video, photography, sound and/or new media.
  • Entry requirements Entry Requirements: Our typical minimum entry requirements for applicants with A levels/AS levels/BTEC is 200 points. Applications from students with non-traditional qualifications are welcome.

    Programme

    1st year overview

    Year one modules provide basic knowledge and production skills. Studying television, film, the news, and aspects of popular culture helps you to understand key concepts, ideas and debates. You will work with video, photography, sound and new media and begin creating your own media products.

    2nd year overview

    The core compulsory module Media and Cultural Theory provides you with the framework for advanced study, but
    all other modules are optional. Options include Popular Television as well as Video Documentary and New Media. Another option is Learn to Earn, a work-based module including a two week work placement.

    3rd year overview

    Develop your individual profile by opting, for Contemporary American Cinema, or Popular Music or choose modules dedicated to photography or video production.
