    Programme

    First Year

The mathematics modules studied are Proof and Number Systems; Methods of Applied Mathematics 1 – vectors, differential equations, multivariate calculus; Real Analysis; Linear Algebra. These courses include training in the use of mathematical software – Maple, and Matlab. In computer science the modules are Program Design (programming in the Java language); Algorithms and Data Structures; and Logic and Discrete Mathematics. For those students who will be studying in Europe, appropriate language tuition is available in your first and second years.

    Second Year

The modules available build upon those of the first year: there are further core courses in Real Analysis, and Linear Algebra, together with a wide choice of modules from mathematics and computer science, for example: Functional Programming; Object-Oriented Programming Using C++; Differential Equations and Dynamics; Scientific Computing; Abstract Algebra.

    Third Year

In the third year a compulsory Computer Science Project is taken in either semester. Other modules are chosen from those available in the final years of both the BSc Mathematics degree and the BSc Computer Science degree, for example: Complex Analysis; Topology; Abstract Algebra; Semantics of Programming Languages; Formal Software Specifications; Communication and Concurrency.

If you take the Europe degree your third year of study will be spent at a European university and you will return to Leicester to complete the third year of our degree in your fourth year of study.
