    Content details
    This course is suitable for you if you wish to work with children but lack the necessary literacy skills, where English is not your first language. The course covers the development and care of children, providing play activities and health and safety. Six hours of English enable you to develop Literacy skills. The Foundation Award does not itself enable you to work with children. You need to progress to a Level 2 qualification to work in a school, nursery or pre-school.

    How is the course taught
    You have a mixture of group activities, discussions, some lectures and practical activities. You spend a minimum of 90 hours in a work experience placement

    Assessment
    You are assessed through 5 written assignments and a multiple choice exam. You complete a personal action plan and a portfolio showing achievements over the year. English has a test.

    Course leads to

    If you gain an overall Merit/Distinction and Literacy Level 1, you can apply for a Level 2 childcare course.
