You should have enthusiasm for lingerie, an interest in fashion/textile design and be willing to do a little written and art work.

    For students with good sewing skills and, ideally, previous lingerie-making experience, this course covers the making of items such as teddies, camisoles, knickers and/or suspenders, night-dresses and slips. Students will make 3 garments and keep a folder of samples of techniques and trend information.

    What does the course lead to?

    Successful completion can lead onto other higher level fashion and textiles courses, setting up a small business or taking commissions.

    What does the course involve?

    The course covers traditional and innovative lingerie techniques. You will work on 3 assessment pieces - chosen from a full slip/camisole,/teddy and a pair of knickers/boxer shorts/half slip and a robe/nightdress/pyjamas.

    In addition, you will work on a folder of  samples of techniques, with written information, current trends in lingerie, exhibitions etc.

    What are the facilities and equipment like?

    The course will take place in the specialist fashion and textiles studio.

    How much should I study outside class?

    A certain amount of home study will be required each week. Students will need to attend regularly and punctually to enable them to cover all the components of the course and achieve the qualification.

    How is the course assessed?

    Assessment is continuous through completion of three assignments, a folder of work and visual design studies.

    What books and equipment do I need?


    You will need to bring scissors, needles, pins, a tape measure, a thimble, sewing threads to match the fabrics you will use. You will also need a folder with plastic sleeves, in which to keep you samples and notes, a note-pad, pens and pencils. Pattern cutting paper and calico for toiles is normally for sale in college.
