Introduction to Prosthetic Make-Up - Course

  • Course description

Are you either looking to break into make-up special effects work, or want to refresh your knowledge but are not sure what courses are right for you? This fun, fascinating and informative course will introduce you to the complex world of Prosthetic Make-Up effects.

Through a series of talks, demonstrations and practical hands-on prosthetic application sessions your tutor Julia Carter will introduce you to basic sculpting and mould making, to applying and colouring simple wounds and scars. You will gain a greater understanding of make-up effects, materials, processes and techniques, on-set etiquette, medical considerations, allergies and an introduction to prosthetic adhesives.

You will have the opportunity to experiment using a wide range of prosthetic materials, with the opportunity to understand and practice latex burns, scars, small prosthetic appendages and discover life-casting techniques. If you wish to expand your knowledge further within this realm, you may wish to contemplate our Special FX in Fantasy Creature Design and Fabrication course.

    What you need to bring

Equipment and prosthetic consumables will be available to use but you will be required to bring facial tissues and baby wipes/face wipes (e.g. Tesco or Wilkinsons) and cotton buds.
