Course - Level 2 Diploma in Photo Imaging

  • Entry requirements Entry requirements are flexible and are not just based on academic achievement but take into account practical skills as well as a keen interest in the photographic/ photo imaging industry. Although English Language and Maths GCSE are preferable, you will be given an interview and an assessment in literacy and numeracy to determine your suitability for this programme. You will also be asked to bring examples of your photographs and/or artwork to the interview.

    What does it include?
    This Diploma is for anyone aged 16 and above and includes progress towards work placement or employment (if not already employed), which will enable you to complete the following vocational qualifications:

    - City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Photographic Imaging
    - Key Skills Level 1 Communication


    This Diploma is not just a photographic course but covers a comprehensive range of technical skills, underpinning knowledge and experience required by employers and freelance photographers in the working environment.  These major areas of professional photography include:

    - Studio photography, location, still life and people
    - Presentation and finishing techniques
    - Use and application of photography
    - Choosing appropriate equipment and materials
    - Digital and chemical darkroom techniques
    - Colour & Black & White photography
    - Digital image manipulation and storage
    - Business practice, legislation and health & safety
    - Employability skills

    How is the programme structured?
    Students attend college for a 12-week intensive training programme and then progress into part-time work experience for 2 days a week and part-time college for 3 days a week. You will receive support and guidance in finding suitable work placements in photography or photo imaging.

    Where does it lead?

    Possible progression routes include Level 3 National Diploma or National Certificate in Photography.
    Students will also be given guidance on progression routes to Apprenticeships and employment.
