  • Entry requirements Applicants should hold GCSEs in five subjects (including maths and English language) plus two subjects at Advanced Level, or four at AS Level, or any equivalent combinations. Alternative Level 3 qualifications such as CIH National Certificate (with merits); Access to HE; Advanced GNVQ are acceptable. Applicants without Level 3 qualifications but with relevant work experience in housing may be admitted after interview and diagnostic assessment.

  • Course description Content details
    This course is for housing professionals who wish to gain a Higher Education academic award and the Professional Qualification in Housing. The course will widen their knowledge of housing, enable them to develop their professional practice and bring them up to date with current initiatives and debates in the housing field. It is also suitable for full-time students who wish to enter employment in a housing related area who will complete a work placement in year two. CONEL and Middlesex University have been successfully teaching housing studies programmes at Higher Education level for over fifteen years. The Foundation Degree (PQ) is validated by the University, and approved by the Chartered Institute of Housing as meeting all of their requirements for professional membership. Study in the first two years (part time), or first year (full time) covers the historical, political and legal context of housing; housing management and development; and housing in society. In the third year (part time), or second year (full time) study covers policy and finance, housing organisations, and research methods. Students already working in housing will undertake a work-based learning module; those not working in housing a work placement.

    How is the course taught
    The course is taught through lectures and seminars; group work; and with visiting speakers and visits. Occasionally teaching days will be held at Middlesex University's Hendon Campus.

    Assessment
    Assessment is by coursework in the first year, and by coursework and examination in the second.

    Course leads to
    Students who successfully complete the Foundation Degree will be eligible to progress to the BSc (Honours) in Housing Studies.
