Programme
A qualifying Law Degree, recognised by the Law Society and the Bar, enabling those who wish to become Lawyers to obtain the necessary academic exemptions for entry into the legal profession. LLB Honours Law develops skills which will benefit students both educationally and vocationally. Students acquire skills associated with the law including the ability to:
-Research and sift material from the original sources
-Relate law to factual situations
-Critically analyse the law and the policies that underpin it
-Argue clearly.
This Degree includes modules designed to develop a range of transferable skills relevant to any career, especially written and verbal communication skills. All students receive Information Technology training (if required) in order to access law materials available in electronic form such as LEXIS, Westlaw, Butterworths Direct and the Crime Desktop. Students are expected to Moot (see page 7)and are encouraged to participate in Client Interviewing.
Year One modules will cover:
-Constitutional and Administrative Law
-Criminal Law
-Law of Contract
-English and European Legal Contexts.
Year Two compulsory modules cover:
-Law of Tort
-Land Law
-European Union Law
-Plus one further optional module.
Year Three modules include one compulsory module – Equity and Trusts – plus three optional modules chosen from the following:
-Administrative Law
-Intellectual Property Law
-Civil Liberties
-Labour Law
-Commercial Law
-Law and Medicine
-Company Law
-Law of Evidence
-Information Technology Law
-Consumer Law
-Law of Succession
-Criminology
-Public International Law
-Welfare Law
-Family Law
-Legal Skills and the Lawyering Process.
The course is taught by a mixture of formal lectures, tutorials and seminars. Tutorials and seminars are in smaller groups, where students engage in group discussion or problem solving. Modules are usually assessed by essays and examinations.
