  • Objectives Future Prospects: - Media industries continue to change as new technology and work practices are adopted throughout television, radio, web and non-broadcast sectors - This MA will provide you with the essential skills and knowledge for entry and future progress in positions such as a researcher (television, radio, corporate), reporter, director or production work - You could also enter careers in sales, scheduling and press and PR
  • Entry requirements - You should have a good Honours degree in a relevant subject (e.g. Media, Communications, PR, Journalism), but candidates with first degrees in other Humanities, Social Sciences, Arts and Business subjects will also be considered - Substantial relevant experience or professional qualifications can substitute for graduate status - You should also have a good standard of written and spoken English (IELTS 6.0 or equivalent)

    - The MA Humanities/Social Sciences provides a general framework within which students can pursue specialist pathways of study in History, English, Film Studies, Conflict Studies, Voluntary and Public Sectors: Policy and Practice, or in this case, Contemporary Media
    - This course has been designed in conjunction with professional broadcasters
    - Provides a range of intellectual, practical and industry-relevant elements
    - You will examine innovative, new methods in contemporary media giving you an advantage in the employment market
    - These new methods are essential to the working knowledge and skills of the future work force, enabling media professionals to respond and adapt to an environment of continuous change
    - Study television, radio, and corporate and educational forms through differing practical approaches
    - Includes the essential technical skills of self-shooting, editing, directing as well as the role of press, PR and marketing
    - Key elements of the course are taught by media professionals ? you find out first-hand about industry-standard practices
    - Benefit from small group, seminar-style teaching
    - The course team has close relationships with media industries in the region, including the BBC, ITV, independent producers, and press and PR companies, providing you with additional opportunities for making contacts with industry professionals
    - There will be opportunities to attend Royal Television Society lectures and events in the region, and meet national and regional industry figures
