Course descriptionPROGRAMME CONTENT
The programme investigates key creative processes of performance-making. Two core modules in Theory and Practice of Performance provide the opportunity to bring these elements together in collaborative and individual production work. A major research project may take the form of a written dissertation or a practice-as-research exercise. Throughout, you will be invited to test and develop your practice in relation to theory and in the context of issues at the forefront of drama, theatre and performance in both academic and professional spheres.

ASSESSMENT
Assessment is by a combination of essay paper, performance, performance documentation and a major research project.
SPECIAL FEATURES
The programme is housed in the University’s recently refurbished Gulbenkian Centre, home to versatile and flexible main-house and studio theatres (and a radio studio), supported by rehearsal rooms, property stores, paintshop and wardrobe. The Old Boilerhouse offers a state-of-the-art Design and Construction Workshop, a Computer-Assisted Design and Modelling Suite and a Scenography and Technical Design Studio.
Students have the opportunity both to make their own work and to be involved in the work of others. The programme is suitable for those who wish to develop careers as practitioners or who wish to go on to further academic work as MPhil and PhD students.
Candidates for admission will normally be expected to have made some significant study of drama or theatre during the course of their studies at firstdegree level, but applications from people with other kinds of experience – including professional – are positively encouraged.
