MA-Postgraduate Diploma in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography
ObjectivesThe MA/Pg Dip course is delivered as an intensive programme, with considerable emphasis placed on rigorous and demanding one-toone tutorials in which students’ personal vision will be challenged and developed. These tutorials will be accompanied by a series of lectures, workshops and seminars, delivered by course staff and visiting industry professionals. During the course there will also be a rigorous programme of photographic assignments. We believe that practical experience is a key part of the training. An important part of the course is work experience with a national newspaper, magazine or picture agency.
Entry requirementsGraduates of all disciplines may apply. You must be socially aware, inquisitive, self-motivated and passionate about a career in photojournalism or documentary photography. At interview you will present a portfolio of photographic work and two story proposals. Relevant professional experience or work experience in the industry is increasingly importantYou are advised to apply by early August at the latest as the course is usually over-subscribed.

Designed for postgraduate students who wish to pursue a career in photojournalism or documentary photography, this course underpins a rigorous programme of photographic assignments within the framework of the history and development of the medium and the critical ethical and theoretical context in which this medium is viewed. Exploring the methodology of documentary photography and photojournalism, you will initiate and develop your own projects and areas of special interest.
Group and individual tutorials support your programme of lectures and seminars. Professionals working at the highest level in their chosen fields act as tutors and as visiting tutors.
The School believes practical experience is a key part of the training and you will be encouraged to undertake work experience with a national newspaper, magazine or picture agency.
Before you join the course, you should be established in your practice as a photographer and have some proiciency in basic scanning, photoshop and traditional darkroom skills.
