Objectives
Aims to enable students to develop a multidisciplinary and holistic approach to work with children and young people by bringing together students from a variety of disciplines including medicine, education, law, psychology and sociology to consider a broad range of childhood issues, within the context of current policy developments.

Entry requirements
people with minimum second class first degree. Substantial professional work experience in an area relevant to children or child issues desirable. We may also accept other relevant study or work experience. A pass mark of 60 per cent of the PG Dip element of the programme is required for the MA.

Programme description
- Multidisciplinary approach.
- Largely taught by external expert speakers.
- Covers latest developments in children's issues.
Four modules (PG Dip):
Children’s Rights: international obligations; UK law & policy; unaccompanied asylum-seekers; young offenders.
Child Health & Development: neonatal care; child development, (physical, emotional and psychological); mental health; education.
Child Protection: poverty/social exclusion; children in need; abuse and neglect; child protection proceedings; alternative care.
Multidisciplinary Practice: practice-based problems are addressed from a multidisciplinary perspective.
The curriculum is subject to change to keep up with policy developments.
Programme format and assessment
PG Dip: three formal essays; one written examination. MA: dissertation 15,000-17,500 words.
Full-time: Weekly half-day lecture sessions (Wednesday) for PG Dip programme. Seven full day MA seminars (Tuesdays).
Part-time: Year one (PG Dip): Weekly half-day lecture sessions (Wednesday). Year two (MA): Seven full day seminars (Tuesday).
