ObjectivesThe aim of this programme is to offer graduates working in the construction industry the opportunity to develop project-management skills in the context of large-scale contemporary architectural projects. The course will suit those professionals who have a construction-project background and want to learn more about design aspects, or those who have a design background who wish to gain skills in project management.
Entry requirementsntry Requirements For MSc-level entry, students must hold: * a good (minimum 2:2) honours degree in a relevant discipline, and/or; * full membership of a relevant professional institution, and/or; * equivalent UK/overseas qualifications which may be considered on an individual basis. For Postgraduate Diploma/Certificate-level entry, students must hold: * a relevant ordinary degree and an acceptable period of relevant industrial experience, and/or; * associate membership of a relevant professional institution, and/or; * a relevant certificated qualification and an acceptable period of relevant post-qualification experience, and/or; * a good (minimum 2:2) honours degree from another discipline. Prospective students with other qualifications and experience are encouraged to contact us to determine their suitability for entry to the course. Admission to the programme is dealt with by Heriot-Watt University.
Graduates from the programme will be able to understand and apply:
* current theories and practice in project management;
* construction economics;
* finance and risk management;
* human resource management;
* corporate strategy and procurement.
Graduates will also understand the context and factors that inform contemporary architectural design, the influence of sustainability and industrialisation of construction on building design, and contemporary ideas on the development of cities.
How You Will Be Taught
The programme will be jointly delivered with the School of the Built Environment, Heriot-Watt University, taking advantage of the different skills available in each institution using a distance-learning mode.
The total credit weighting for the course is 180; 60 credits from modules offered by Heriot-Watt, 60 credits from modules offered by the University of Edinburgh and 60 credits from a dissertation supervised by either institution.
