    Edinburgh is the oldest and one of the best AI research centres in the world. Our MSc in AI was first offered in 1983 and remains one of the University's most popular degree programmes.

    Research in AI at Edinburgh spans knowledge representation and reasoning, the study of brain processes and artificial learning systems, computer vision, mobile and assembly robotics, music perception and visualisation.

    Students can choose from over 50 modules which are grouped into subject areas or specialisms such as: Intelligent Robotics; Knowledge Engineering; Natural Language and Language Engineering; and Representation and Reasoning. In addition, students can choose modules from any other specialisms on offer, subject to regulations on excluded combinations. For a full list of specialisms see the MSc in Informatics.

    How You Will Be Taught

    The degree spans a full 12-month period, is modular in structure and consists of two semesters of lecture-based teaching, assessed by an examination in April. This is followed by a major individual project in a chosen area of specialisation and includes a written dissertation.
