MSc in Autism

  • Academic title MSc in Autism
  • Course description Course Description

The University validated the Postgraduate Certificate and Diploma in Autism to start in January 1999. A first in Scotland, these programmes are open to a range of professionals working in the field of Autism, including teachers; medical staff; educational psychologists; college staff; speech and language therapists; residential care staff; social work staff; health care professionals; community care workers and voluntary sector personnel. In addition to the regular tutor team visiting speakers from the field of autism provide essential first hand experience of current practice.

    Philosophy of the Programme

Autism is such a complex of skills and difficulties which no single profession can expect to meet in isolation. People working in the field of Autism find themselves working alongside many others. It is therefore proposed that these programmes will be open to all suitably qualified people whose professional lives bring them into regular contact with people on the Autism Spectrum and their families. The multi professional nature of the programme will allow practitioners to learn both formally and informally about different professional and parental contributions. This multi professional programme should be viewed as an award in Autism, rather than a preparation to fulfil any specific professional role. Participants are however supported to make appropriate developments in their workplace.

    Delivery

The course is delivered at Jordanhill Campus within a number of Local Authorities throughout Scotland.
