MSc Network Systems

  • Objectives The course aims to produce graduates who will work in computer networking and telecom areas in a variety of rolls such as: that are able to work as professionals in one of the two following areas. 1. Networks Managers 2. Network Programmers The course will develop the necessary skills and knowledge to enable the graduate to design and implement a software system to operate in a networked environment.
  • Entry requirements The normal entry requirement for the course is a good first honours degree (2:2) or above or equivalent in Science, Computer Science, Information Technology and Electrical and Electronic Engineering. International students must demonstrate a good command of the English Language and normally would have to undertake an IELTS examination. Students who do not possess the necessary English Language grade will be required to gain further English Language tuition prior to starting the programme.

    Stages 1 and 2
    Postgraduate Certificate (PgC)* 60 credits and Postgraduate Diploma (PgD) 60 credits

    The course consists of eight taught modules and a major individual project normally based in industry/commerce.
    • Local and Wide Area Networks
    • Research, Ethical, Professional and Local Issues (REPLI)
    • Java Network Programming or Broasdcast Systems
    • Network Management
    • Wireless Communications
    • Software Engineering for Web Based Systems
    • Network Simulation


    * A Postgraduate Certificate in Network Systems is available for those students who gain a minimum of 60 M-level credits from any of the taught modules within this programme (excluding the project).
