MSc Nursing (Mental Health)

  • Objectives The principal aims of the programme are to: * provide an opportunity for the professional development of the mental health nurse or practitioner through the provision of an exit-level qualification relevant to the disciplines; * provide an advanced-level understanding of research and its relevance to practice; * provide advanced-level knowledge in specialist areas of mental health nursing; * offer a learning experience to facilitate personal development to enhance career pathways.
  • Entry requirements Entry Requirements Candidates are required to have a good honours degree or relevant nursing or mental health professional experience or provide evidence of ability to do academic work at this level. Applicants who are not graduates will be asked to write a reflective piece.

  • Course description Learning Outcomes

    On completion, students will know:

        * a range of research approaches relevant to nursing and to the broader issues of health and healthcare;
        * how to critically appraise published research relevant to nursing;
        * developments and debates around advances in nursing policy and practice relevant to mental health;
        * how to synthesise findings and arguments from research publications, reports and policy literature relevant to mental health;
        * how to develop a coherent and advanced argument of issues pertinent to mental-health nursing as a discipline.

    How You Will Be Taught

    Teaching and learning is by lectures, seminars, reading groups and independent study. Assessment is by coursework and, for the MSc, by dissertation. A personal tutor provides guidance and academic support. One of the academic staff supervises the dissertation
