    The Centre for Cutaneous Research (CCR) has an reputation for teaching and research in
    dermatology. The CCR was the first to use laboratory grown skin to treat burns and chronic wounds in the UK in the early 1980’s. This has led to the establishment of research fellowships for many young plastic surgeons and their success in acquiring higher degrees, as well as providing tissue engineered products for patients around London. As a result of this the CCR now has established an academic group of plastic surgeons, who have led
    the development of a novel postgraduate diploma of the University of London for Aesthetic Surgery.Course leads: Professor David Smith, Simon Myers PhD FRCS (Hon Senior lecturer), Jim Frame FRCS, Professor H Navsaria PhD Contributors:UK plastic and aesthetic surgeons.

    The programme leads to a postgraduate Diploma of the University of London: PGDipAesRecSurg.

        * Web based distance learning programme

    It starts in October and runs for two academic years.


    Programme outline

    This programme consists of a mixture of structured distance learning, DVD/theatre based clinical teaching, and the completion of a dissertation. We cover the entire spectrum of aesthetic surgery with an emphasis on fundamental principles and instruction in a wide range of techniques.

        * A 10,000 word dissertation must be submitted
        * An assessment must be passed at the end of each module and an examination must be passed at the end of the programme.

    Assessment

        * Each of the teaching packages includes a written assignment, of which 80 per cent must be successfully completed.
        * A 10,000 word dissertation must be submitted based on detailed analysis of five dermatological patients
        * An assessment must be passed at the end of each module and an examination must be passed at the end of the course.
