  • Objectives The course seeks to have a clear user-centred focus, as well as promoting the development of public health skills. The course also has a considerable practice and work-based component in order to develop specialist and higher level skills. Specialist branches currently offered are: -Community Mental Health Nursing -District Nursing -Practice Nursing
  • Entry requirements You must be a registered nurse with a live NMC registration on the appropriate part/s of the NMC register for your chosen branch, for example, health visiting. Normally two years post-registration experience is required and a good Honours degree in a relevant subject. You will require an appropriate placement to undertake this course.   • Course description Course structure
    You must complete and pass six modules. The cores are:

    -Evaluating Research and Evidence-based Practice
    -Partnership Working and Management
    -Mental Health in Primary Care
    -Practice 1 - Assessing Individuals, Groups, and Families
    -Practice 2 - Public Health and Health Profiling
    -Specialist Module - varies depending on your chosen branch. 

    Assessment
    Assessment methods include reports, essays, seminar presentations and a practice portfolio.

    Placements
    You must have a suitable practice teacher who will be responsible for assessing your practical competence. The course includes an elective placement of your choice of up to two weeks. This can include study abroad.

    Career opportunities
    You can obtain the MA in Public Health on completion of this Postgraduate Diploma course by undertaking a triple-module dissertation in a relevant topic.

    Attendance & duration

    Full-time: approximately 40 weeks including placements, attending University two days per week in Semester A & B
    Part-time (day): two years attending one day per week - timetabling of placement negotiable
