    You will develop an understanding of severe learning difficulties and how to offer support to children with them.

    Course structure

    Stage 1
    PgCert (60 credits)
    This programme is concerned with helping with the development of appropriate curriculum activity for young SLD people and will engage you in the structures and processes associated with working with SLD pupils either in a main stream or specialised environment. Emphasis will be placed on god practice and you will have the opportunity to engage with other teachers and other educational environments for SLD students.

    Stage 2
    PgDip (60 credits)
    This stage will be a matter of your selecting from cognate phases within the professional studies programme. You can extend your study of SLD through the independent study modules or professional development modules, as well as potentially accessing modules in Autism, Speech and Language difficulty etc. This must be discussed with the admissions tutors.
     
    Stage 3
    MA (60 credits)
    Should you wish to proceed to the final stages of the MA in professional studies in Education, you have the opportunity to investigate in some depth (via the mechanism of a dissertation) an issue of professional and personal interest / concern with the SLD arena. This stage of the programme engages you in research methods, module (15 credits) and a 15 – 20k word dissertation (45 credits). This latter means that you will be appointed a supervisor and will work with support sets to study and investigate your chosen topic
