    Course description
BA (Hons) Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies is a Single Hons course which gives you a thorough grounding in the languages and cultures of the Portuguese and Spanish speaking worlds. Both Spanish and Portuguese are available as individual subject areas which can be studied alongside another subject in a Joint Hons course.

    Single Hons Spanish

Single Hons Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies is a four year course with the third year being spent abroad under approved conditions in a country where your languages of study are spoken.  The course immerses you in Spanish language and Hispanic culture whilst introducing you to Portuguese language and culture which you can choose to study in more depth after your first year.  It also provides in-depth knowledge on Latin America and the opportunity to learn Catalan.

For more details on the format of the Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies degree course, please refer to the plan content section.

Spanish can also be studied as part of a Joint Hons course in combination with another subject.  This covers the language and culture of Spain and the Hispanic world and also focuses on aspects of the other subject you choose.

Again, the third year is spent abroad under approved conditions.  If you choose a Joint Hons Modern Languages course, this time can be divided equally between two countries where your target languages are spoken or spent in just one of them.
