  • Objectives
    Classical Biochemistry – the analysis of the many pathways by which cells synthesise and degrade organic molecules – has now broadened to include, for example, the structure and function of the highly complex organelles which mediate energy transfer in the cell and the molecular mechanisms by which genes are expressed. Modern Biophysical Chemistry now permits descriptions of biological macro-molecules at a level previously only possible for simple chemicals, while technical advances have brought subjects once only comprehended at the morphological or physiological level (e.g. embryonic development, neurophysiology, immunology) into the area of biochemistry. The chemistry component of the Warwick course acquaints you with the concepts and techniques needed to understand biochemical systems. The rest of the degree introduces you to the core subjects of biochemistry and to exciting developments in molecular biology, genetic engineering and biotechnology.
  • Entry requirements
    General university admissions requirements All applicants must possess a minimum level of competence in English Language and in Mathematics or a Science. A pass at Grade C or above in GCSE English Language and in Mathematics or a Science, or an equivalent qualification, fulfils this requirement. We usually ask for candidates to show a broad base of study at GCSE level (or equivalent) with passes in at least five subjects from a range of disciplines.
