• Objectives
  Crop science is concerned with the production of crops, while protecting the wider ecosystem and the provision and management of recreational and leisure environments. A thorough education in the sciences, management and economics, coupled with well-developed communication skills, is the key to successful careers in crop science.

  Year one
  
  In the first year, you will study subjects that underpin crop science, including biochemistry, genetics, ecology and entomology. The course also looks at the commercial application of biology to the agricultural and food industries.
  
  Years two and three
  
  During the second and third years, the emphasis moves to the application of crop science. A wide range of modules is available in areas such as field crops, agroecology, biotechnology, soil science, management and economics. It is possible to select modules from all of these areas to give a broad-based degree, or to specialise in one or two key subjects. You will also learn about experimental design in preparation for the start of your research project, which allows you to participate in research carried out in the School of Biosciences.
