  • Entry requirements
    Prospective students need to have a minimum 5 GCSE’s at grade D, including English, Mathematics and Science. Students aged 16 -18 will also need a good school record and will need to bring their NRA to interview. Applicants who have not studied GCSE will be required to sit the college tests in the individual subjects.
  • Course description
    Duration of course:
    1 year - Daytime.
    This course is only available as part of the full time GCSE Science programme which consists of 6 subjects: Physics, Biology, Chemistry, English Language, English Literature and Mathematics.

    What does it include?
    You will study products from rocks, oils, the atmosphere, structure, bonding, rates of reaction, equilibrium, energy changes, the periodic table, electrolysis, acidity, calculations and analysis. In addition you will study ‘How Science Works’ and how it relates the other Chemistry topics.
    The assessment consists of three 45 minute theory examinations on Units 1,2 and 3 plus an ISA (Investigative Skills Assignment), based on laboratory practical work.

    Where does it lead?
    Depending on the grades achieved students may progress on to A levels in separate science subjects or the A Level Applied Science Double Award.
