    This workshop based course includes a broad range of printmaking techniques that are available in this studio such as Monoprinting, Collographs, Linocut, Drypoint and Etching. By the end of the course you will have gained an overview of what printmaking can offer and be able to use some of these processes with confidence.

    What does the course involve?


    The process of Printmaking allows you to create works of art by transferring a drawn image from an inked block or metal surface onto paper. You will be introduced to the broad range of printmaking techniques that are available in this studio such as Monoprinting, Collographs, Linocut, Drypoint and Etching. By the end of the course you will have gained an overview of what printmaking can offer and be able to use some of these processes with confidence. Every few weeks a new technique is introduced by demonstration and looking at the work of other artists.Students are encouraged to explore the creative possibilities of these processes with individual support toguide them through set projects or realize self initiated work.

    At the end of the course you will have the opportunity to exhibit some of your work in the end of year show in the gallery at the Hortensia road site.

    Where will I study?

    The printmaking studio is at the Hortensia Centre in the main Sloane building on the third floor, room S304. The studio is spacious and light with good fume extraction and specialist facilities including 2 Rochat printing presses, bed size: 26x48”.

    How is the course assessed?

    In order to pass this course you will need to hand in your prints and supporting sketchbook work for assessment when asked. Upon successful completion of the work you will achieve a BTEC certificate for one unit in Visual Arts Printmaking Level 1. You will also have made a portfolio of prints which can be shown at interview for other courses in the future.

    What books and equipment do I need?

    Please bring basic equipment: brushes, pencils, sketchbooks, an apron or old shirt to protect clothes, heavy duty rubber gloves (can be bought in the studio) and plenty of inspiration!
