    Spanish as a Second Language

    The Department of Foreign Languages and Cultures offers a program in Spanish as a Foreign Language to the international community and foreigners living in Colombia. The main objective of the program is to learn the language and improve communicative competences by working in the four language skills: listening, writing, speaking and reading; giving participants the opportunity to know our culture.

    Classes start every Monday and are delivered in the morning to give students the opportunity of participating in other activities in the afternoons. We offer participants a flexible program in which they can choose the number of weeks they want to study and when to start. All courses are complemented with a great variety of cultural activities and extracurricular courses that enrich the experience.

    Overview

    The Department of Foreign Languages and Cultures from Universidad de La Sabana offers the opportunity to improve communicative competence in Spanish by means of:
    • A culture and language immersion.
    • A course that includes standard general Spanish and specific purposes Spanish.
    • The practice of the language in different real life activities.

    We offer four different options
    • General Spanish Course.
    • Intensive Spanish Course.
    • One on one lessons.
    • Spanish Summer Program.

    General objective of the course

    To improve the communicative competences in Spanish and the intercultural competence.


    Methodology

    Theoretical and practical sessions with a communicative approach in which the students work on the four language skills: listening, speaking, writing and reading and learn an appropriate range of grammar and vocabulary. Students are given plenty of opportunities to participate in a great variety of life activities.


    Duration of the program

    Our General Spanish and Intensive Spanish courses are very flexible, you can choose how many weeks to study and when to start. Courses start every Monday; therefore participants can choose any date for starting the program.

    GENERAL SPANISH COURSE

    15 hoursof Spanish classes (per week)
    1 cultural activity or field trip (per week)

    INTENSIVE SPANISH COURSE

    20 hours of Spanish classes (per week)
    1 cultural activity or field trip (per week)

    ONE ON ONE LESSONS

    Participants in private lessons must take a minimum of 15 hours of Spanish classes.

    SUMMER PROGRAM

    80 hours of Spanish instruction
    16 hours of Latin American and Colombian Culture Course.
    8 hours of Latin music dancing course.
    4 cultural activities or field trips.
    Overnight trip to Villa de Leyva.
    Homestay accommodation
    (Individual bedroom, breakfast, dinner, laundry, TV and wifi).
    Airport pick-up
    Placement test
    Unlimited use of the language resource center “Studium”.

    Schedule

    • General Spanish Course: Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
    • Intensive Spanish Course: Monday to Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
    • One on one lessons: days and time are chosen by the student.
    • Cultural activity: once a week in the afternoon.
    • Extracurricular Course: once a week (working days in the afternoon or Saturday morning).
    • Spanish Summer Program: Monday to Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

    Cultural activities and field trips (Among others):
    • City tours to famous monuments, museums and colonial surroundings

    • Tejo (Colombian sport).

    Extracurricular Courses (Among others):
    • Sports (Tennis, swimming, rowing, ping-pong, soccer)
    • Handcrafts (jewelry, dolls, boxes, wrapping, linens)

    • Singing.


    Cost
    • General Spanish Course: starting from USD $1 2 0 per week
    • Intensive Spanish Course: starting from USD $138 per week
    • One on one lessons: USD $ 30 per hour
    • Spanish Summer Program: USD $ 2300
    • Accommodation home-stay in Bogota: USD $ 150 per week. Extra night: USD $ 22
    • Accommodation home-stay in Chía: USD $ 120 per week. Extra night: USD $ 20
    • Airport pick up (optional): USD $ 30 (Bogotá) and USD $40 (Chía)
    • Finding accommodation fee: USD $0
    • Registration fee: USD $ 0
    • Placement test: USD $ 0

    Refund policy

    There is not refund of money. If eventually a student has to return home earlier than expected, we will arrange for one on one lessons to be delivered before departure.
