Comments about MA Product Design Management - At the institution - Poole - Dorset

  • Objectives
    This programme has been designed to give an

    understanding of the key issues involved in modern

    product design management. A key part in providing this

    understanding is the development of the available

    analytical and computing tools, their use and scope.

    This programme will meet the requirements of the design

    community for a more contemporary MA award which focuses

    on the management of design. The subject area covers

    product development at both ends – from initial brief

    and research, through to manufacture.

    The programme will appeal to design organisations as

    well as engineering employers for the advancement of

    candidates holding a first degree, or equivalent

    qualification, in a design related field. Our aim is to

    enhance existing skills and abilities by enabling a

    systematic approach to design and the decision making

    process.

    This postgraduate programme aims to develop in its

    graduates the abilities to apply design simulation

    within the fields of product design, engineering design,

    mechanical engineering, and related disciplines. The

    programme examines the product development process,

    including establishment of demand, specification

    development and beyond.

    This programme produces graduates who:

    -understand and employ modern product design and

    development methods in the management of the design

    process;

    -are fully conversant with modern information

    resources and use them effectively and efficiently

    have a critical understanding of the application of

    computer modelling and simulation tools to the

    implementation and management of the product design

    process;

    -have a critical understanding of the fundamental

    principles of product modelling, its strengths,

    potential and limitations;

    -have the ability and confidence to apply their

    knowledge and skills to specific design problems, and

    also communicate effectively with both those working in

    the field of product design and with the wider

    public.
  • Entry requirements
    Normally, the minimum qualification for entry to this

    programme is a second class degree, typically in a

    design or engineering discipline.
