    The course is offered by the Diplomatic Academy of London. It develops your conceptual understanding of the practices and procedures of modern diplomacy, and enhances your ability to work effectively within the diplomatic community.
  • Entry requirements
    Normally, you must have either: a first degree from a recognised UK or overseas institution, a postgraduate degree, or professional qualification in a relevant discipline, such as politics, economics, law or languages; or knowledge and skills at a university degree standard, normally through five years’ relevant work experience. You will need fluent written and spoken English to study at postgraduate level. If your first language is not English, an attainment of at least IELTS 6.5 or the TOEFL equivalent of 600 must be demonstrated. The University offers presessional summer programmes if you need to improve your English before starting your course. You may be required to attend an interview and pass a language test.

    Introduction
    The course is offered by the Diplomatic Academy of London. It develops your conceptual understanding of the practices and procedures of modern diplomacy, and enhances your ability to work effectively within the diplomatic community. The course is designed for diplomats, officials of various overseas ministerial departments, members of international and regional organisations, staff of non-governmental organisations and multinational corporations, as well as those who wish to pursue a diplomatic career in the future, or work for other government departments or multinational corporations.

    Course Content
    The course is a blend of academic studies and professional training. The areas of communication, law, social sciences, humanities and languages all feature in the course. Professional aspects are covered by diplomats, journalists, politicians and senior officials from various government departments who contribute as guest speakers.

    Teaching and Assessment
    You will be assessed via coursework and oral and written exams. You will also be assessed through a written presentation of the dissertation of 12-15,000 words on an approved topic, although an oral presentation may also be required.
