  • Course description
    Course description

The MSc course combines elements of engineering analysis with design synthesis to develop problem solving ability. The combination of creative thinking and in-depth engineering analysis to demonstrate feasibility is a feature developed by the course. The programme focuses on the development of concepts to a mature engineering level, proving feasibility using modern computational methods - this is the current philosophy in the design field. The ability to design large multi-function engineering systems or structures and components, made from different materials, under complex loading, is of fundamental importance. Design problems of these types are particularly challenging and interesting and form a major area of study on the programme.

    Module details

You follow a number of compulsory and optional course units in the first two semesters which typically include:

    -Explosion Engineering
    -Finite Elements
    -Research Methods
    -Engineering Design
    -Reliability and Maintainability
    -Design Optimisation
    -Advanced Vibrations

    Career opportunities

Those graduating from the programmes are equipped to take up a wide range of opportunities in theoretical and applied research or professional posts in project appraisal, implementation and management or geotechnical/structural design and analysis
