    MLitt: 12 months full-time; 24 months part-time
    PgDip: 9 months full-time; 18 months part-time

    This programme provides you with the opportunity to pursue your own historical interests in a lively and congenial environment within an internationally distinguished department. It combines training in historical skills and methods with a wide range of specialist options in all periods of British, European and American history. It has particular strengths in medieval history; gender history; social and cultural history; military history; British history and the history of medicine.

    In consultation with the programme convener, you will tailor your programme to reflect your personal interests.

    Core course:

        * Research resources and skills for historians.

    Plus five additional options from an extensive list of topics and research skills courses.

    You may, where appropriate, include courses from cognate disciplines. All students taking the MLitt complete a dissertation on their chosen research topic under the supervision of a member of staff with specialist interests in the field.

    This programme is the same as the MSc in History which can be taken in the Faculty of Law, Business & Social Sciences. The MSc is recognised by the Economic & Social Research Council; candidates for ESRC funding are required to take certain combinations of courses.
