Comments about MMAth Mathematics with Study in Europe - At the institution - Sheffield - South Yorkshire

  • Objectives
The Mathematics course is taught by the three departments of Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and probability and Statistics. Most Single Honours students start by studying Core Mathematics and all three of these subjects and may specialise in one or two of them later on. Dual Honours students take Core Mathematics and some of the same modules as the Single Honours students, and spend roughly half of their time in the School of Mathematics and Statistics. There is scope for changing degree course within the first few weeks of arriving in Sheffield, and sometimes at the end of the first or second year. The courses in Applied Mathematics and Probability and statistics do not assume prior knowledge of these subjects. The third year is spent abroad at a European university learning Mathematics in the language of the country. To prepare for this, some of the Mathematics modules in the first two years at Sheffield are replaced by language courses at an appropriate level. Candidates are expected to have at least a good GCSE in the relevant language before coming to Sheffield.
