    The Department of Psychology at Glamorgan has a thriving research culture, with expertise in numerous areas of psychology. We offer a comprehensive range of facilities and offer a friendly atmosphere in which to conduct your studies. This MSc allows students to carry out an independent study within the framework of a supportive academic culture.

    Course Content

    Students choose an area of psychology and pursue a relevant research project within this area. Research topics include (but are not restricted to) the following:

        * Lifespan Development
        * Parent-Child Relationships
        * National Identity• Retirement
        * Young People in Wales
        * Older Citizens and Community Participation
        * E-learning and the Psychology of Internet Usage
        * Sport Psychology

    Students will also receive training in research methodology, covering both qualitative and quantitative approaches. A prior knowledge of statistics is preferable, although students will receive formal training in statistics and computerised applications associated with this.
    How To Study

    Students will work primarily alone, but will be closely supervised by an academic member of staff. All students attend a research methodology class for around three hours per week, and will be expected to complete written assignments. However, there are no formal written examinations. In keeping with the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences’ research culture, students will be invited to present their research to colleagues
    at research seminars throughout the year.

    The MSc in Psychology degree involves completing a dissertation of around 25,000 words, based on an individual piece of research. Subsequent to this, students will be examined regarding the content
    of the dissertation by an external assessor. In addition, students will be expected to satisfactorily complete all assessments arising from the taught element of the award.

    Career prospects

    This qualification will provide a good basis for anyone wishing to undertake a career in research.
