    This programme focuses on methods of analysing possible economic effects of aid, in particular on public expenditure, investment and growth; possible social and political effects of aid in particular on poverty eradication, welfare, corruption and good governance; and the underlying theories of development governing financial assistance by the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.

    Content

    You will take three core courses

        * Aid and development
        * The IMF, the World Bank and economic growth
        * Globalisation, trade and economic development.

    Plus three options and a dissertation. The list of options includes

        * Development policy
        * Growth and development
        * International trade
        * Financial institutions and markets in developing countries
        * Basic econometrics
        * Project planning, appraisal and implementation
        * Economic appraisal of development projects
        * Theory and principles of sustainability
        * Policies for sustainability and development
        * Poverty: concept, analysis and policies
        * Economics of inequality and deprivation
        * Other MSc options subject to approval.
