Objectives:
This course is for biosciences graduates looking to open up a route into industry, and for practising professionals seeking to widen their experience and qualifications, and extend their knowledge of applied molecular biology/bioinformatics It provides a sound understanding of the subject’s key principles, as well as how these can be effectively applied to a wide range of industrial and environmental applications You will benefit from working with excellent technology and research equipment in our state-of-the-art laboratories, and you also receive a thorough grounding in the necessary computing skills needed to access important online databases, such as the human genome You will be challenged to look to the frontiers of (and even beyond) current thinking in the subject, and to be aware of how your studies impact on your future career/professional role To complement this, you will gain essential intellectual and transferable skills such as independent planning, hypothesis formulation and testing, and the importance of originality The research project will further allow you to develop high-level skills at the cutting edge of these technologies, and to strengthen your problem-solving abilities
Entry Requirements:
Normally, you should have a good Honours degree or equivalent in a bioscience subject, plus 1-2 years appropriate experience – substantial professional experience can substitute for graduate status Graduates from other disciplines (eg. computer science) are welcome to apply You should also have a good standard of written and spoken English (IELTS 6.0 or equivalent) If you are currently employed, we request a statement of support from your employer
