The PgDip provides training for social work in local authorities and the independent sector. Approximately half of the programme is allocated to supervised practice placements. The programme emphasises integration of social sciences with problem-based learning. Assessment is by exam, essays, case studies and field work. Candidates who obtain a pass in all elements of the PgDip may be admitted to the Masters degree, which requires a dissertation; this is normally completed within the following year.
