Course description
It is an aim of the programme to develop the high level of skills, understanding and leadership capability necessary to enter a career in professional accountancy, and to obtain a deeper understanding of the contemporary problems and issues faced by accounting and business professionals. The Masters element will enable students to develop their studies further by requiring them to complete a research dissertation.
There are a number of core and optional modules, and students are expected to successfully complete eight for a Postgraduate Diploma and eight plus a dissertation for the MSc. Core subjects include: auditing and professional ethics; management accounting; business finance; financial accounting; taxation; and professional computer-based systems. There are four core modules in Semester I, and two core modules plus two optional modules in Semester II. Electives can be chosen from a number of relevant postgraduate modules already offered by the Faculty, e.g. research methods; corporate social responsibility; and sustainability in business. Successful completion of the Postgraduate Diploma, including the research methods elective, is required before enrolling for the dissertation.
