  • Objectives
    The programme has been designed specifically to train teachers who wish to teach in lifelong learning sector educational settings, such as FE colleges and adult and community settings.
  • Entry requirements
    To gain entry to the programme you will need a minimum of an NQF level 3 qualification in your occupational area and a degree.

    Students will be expected to undertake a Criminal Records Bureau check.
  • Course description
    This is an award of the University of Teesside delivered in partnership with Cleveland Police Headquarters, Hartlepool College of Further Education, Middlesbrough College, Redcar & Cleveland College and Stockton Riverside College.

    Course structure
    The programme carries 120 credits, 60 at level 1 and 60 at level 2. It covers Teaching, Learning and Assessment, Curriculum Design for Inclusive Practice, Continuing Professional Development and Wider Professional Practice.

    Professional placements
    You must complete a minimum of 150 hours of teaching practice in an appropriate teaching environment. Students will have a practice mentor.

    Professional accreditation
    This qualification has been endorsed by Standards Verification UK as meeting the national requirements for practitioners carrying out the full teaching role.

    On completion of the Foundations in Teaching in the Learning and Skills Sector module, you will have met the national requirements for Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) and will be in a position to apply for a Threshold License to Practice.

    On completion of the full certificate you will have met the national requirements for the Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS) and will be in a position to apply for Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills status (QTLS).
