  • Objectives
    The course aims to: (a) Equip the student for a research career in a selected area of environmental science (b) Provide the student with a basis for further study at PhD level in a broad range of environmental subjects (c) Provide the student with an up-to-date knowledge of the science involved in the selected area of study in the context of the current regulatory framework.
  • Entry requirements
    Successful applicants must normally hold at least a lower second Honours degree in a related subject. Applicants with a lower class of degree and/or from outside of these areas will be considered individually and are usually interviewed prior to being offered a place. Applicants without a first degree, but who have relevant work experience, are also considered on an individual basis.

  • Course description
    This course is aimed at students who wish to pursue a research degree in some aspect of environmental science. The course is suitable for students wishing to obtain a short introduction to research prior to directly entering a research environment in employment or as a research student at PhD level.

    Future prospects

    Successful students will find employment in research environments in both universities and industry. Also, there is a demand for students with Master's degrees in environmental subjects outside research. Currently, our taught Master's students are highly successful in finding employment and in some subject areas, the supply of suitable qualified postgraduate staff is not meeting demand.

        * Air Pollution
        * Water Pollution
        * Environmental Management System
        * Energy Management
        * Environmental Auditing
        * Biological Conservation
        * Waste Management
        * and also in the broader aspects of Environmental Regulation and Management.
