  Entry requirements Normally you need • GCSE grades A to C or equivalent in English language, mathematics and science or equivalent. You must already hold the GCSE requirements before applying to this course. • a 2.1 degree or above, relevant to the national curriculum or primary education, or an A level in a national curriculum-based subject grade B or above to support this • ideally at least 40 days recent experience (in the past two years) in a primary school. This information must be clearly marked on your application. All applications must show evidence of a mimimum of 20 days previous experience with plans for further experience. In addition to the academic reference on your GTTR form, a reference from a school is essential and you will be required to bring this to interview.

  This course is for graduates and equips you with the skills needed for the challenging task of teaching in a primary school. It develops your knowledge, skills and enthusiasm needed to motivate children’s learning.
  
  We emphasise the core subjects of • English • mathematics • science • information and communication technology. This course is designed to prepare you to meet the demands of recent developments in primary education.
  
  School experience is an integral part of the course, and you have opportunities to work with pupils in key stages 1 and 2. We offer the course in partnership with local and regional primary schools, which play a key role in the teaching and assessment of your professional competence.
  
  You attend the University or work in schools intensively over two semesters. You attend regular lectures, seminars and tutorials at the University.

  After you graduate you can teach in maintained primary schools in England and Wales. You may also work overseas in teaching and related employment. Former PGCE students have an excellent success rate in securing employment as teachers.
