What will I study on the Applied Mathematics half award?

During the first year you are given a thorough grounding in basic mathematical techniques in calculus and linear algebra as well as having the opportunity to develop IT skills through the use of software designed to analyse and solve mathematical problems. The more advanced modules in Years 2 and 3 build upon these foundation skills as well as introducing other areas such as Discrete Mathematics and Non-Linear Mathematics. In the final year you are able to specialise in two areas through option choices. These include Numerical Analysis, Mathematical Modelling of Financial Derivatives, Fluid Dynamics and Symmetry. The Mathematical Project module provides an opportunity to acquire the skills necessary to undertake mathematical research through a supervised individual project. If you intend to pursue a career as a Mathematics Teacher, the Mathematics Education Project is an excellent choice.

Programme structure for the Applied Mathematics half award. The programme structures change from year to year. Therefore you might find some variation between that shown here and the final version of your course.
