  • Course description
    BA Single Honours/BA Combined Honours
Business organisations are facing unprecedented change and complex challenges both within the UK and globally. This demands that students who enter the business sector understand the dynamics of the business environment and how organisations operate in increasingly uncertain situations. The Business Management programmes at Liverpool Hope also provide detailed analysis of global business issues, human development and social and cultural change. An experienced, student-focused team will develop your understanding of this business context and develop the critical business skills that future employers will demand.

Why study Business Management at Hope?

Both the pathway and programme focus on:
    • The business environment across the full range of organisations, from small- and medium-sized enterprises to global organisations, from public sector and private companies to voluntary and community organisations and the not-for-profit sector
    • Fundamental business principles and processes
    • Developing business and management skills, such as report writing, presentation and teamwork
Business Management can be studied either as a BA Combined Honours pathway or as a Single Honours programme. The Combined Honours pathway allows you to study Business Management alongside another subject, for example Marketing or Law. The BA Business Management Single Honours programme offers the opportunity to study Business Management in more depth which includes examination of developments in international business and the social and ethical impacts on individuals, organisations and society.

    What will I study?
You will study a dynamic and innovative curriculum that was developed in consultation with private, public, international and community organisations. It is delivered by the Hope Business School, which achieved the maximum possible score of 24 out of 2 in the last national Quality Assurance Agency Subject Review of Business.

    Level 1
You will study a dynamic and innovative curriculum that was developed in consultation with private, public, international and community organisations. It is delivered by the Hope Business School, which achieved the maximum possible score of 24 out of 24 in the last national Quality Assurance Agency Subject Review of Business.

    Level 2
Here you are introduced to underlying principles and concepts of business management through exploration and analysis of a range of business organisations and the changing environment in which they operate. This will include individual and organisational psychology, as well as economic analysis and development. At the same time you will develop a range of personal development skills that are considered essential for future employability.

    Level 3
At Level 3 you will build on your understanding of the key areas of business management, including strategic management and either project management or globalisation and international business. In addition, on the Single Honours Business Management programme, you will also study topics including business ethics and social entrepreneurship, and have the opportunity to undertake a management consultancy project.

    How will I study?
In addition to the more usual teaching methods of lectures and seminars, there is a high level of groupwork. This will help you to develop and refine key business skills such as presentation, communication and teamworking. There is a wide variety of other teaching/learning methods including the use of dedicated online resources and input from visiting international professors and practitioners, all of which will further develop the skills required by you to successfully complete your studies. We also have exceptionally good links with European partner universities and are particularly keen to encourage study abroad as part of the Business Management programme.

    How will I be assessed?
A variety of methods to assess your learning is used to reflect the fact that we all learn in different ways. Typically, these include essays, business reports, project work, presentations, and formal written examinations.
    What do our graduates do?

Knowledge of business principles and the acquisition of management skills are increasingly seen as essential prerequisites by many employers. The Business Management programme provides the knowledge and understanding of how organisations operate today and insight into future trends, which will prepare you for a career in any aspect of management and business, or equip you to set up your own business or to work as a business adviser.
