  • Course description
This course offers the opportunity for study and research across the full range of Civil Engineering. The taught modules are drawn from the taught MSc courses in Civil Engineering, and Civil and Structural Engineering, and there is a wide choice. Staff available for supervising research projects cover a similarly wide range including structural mechanics, materials, hydraulics, urban drainage, geotechnics and management.

    Future prospects

This programme of study is ideal for students wishing to pursue an academic or research-orientated career, and for those seeking employment within the public and private sector.

    Course content

The course aims to provide an opportunity for gaining a research qualification in Civil Engineering via a route that is shorter and more flexible than an MPhil or PhD, but which has more research emphasis than a taught Master's. It is suitable for both full-time and part-time students, and is particularly suitable for part-time students in employment who wish to carry out research on a work-related topic.
