  • Course description
The School of Humanities & Social Sciences welcomes enquiries and applications from those interested in full or part-time study for an MPhil or PhD degree in constituent areas of the humanities and social sciences.

Particular areas of strength, which were entered for the most recent Research Assessment Exercise, are culture, communication and media studies (including literary and cultural studies, English and performance studies), history, philosophy, linguistics, German, sociology (including criminology) and law.

It is essential that applicants have a clear idea of the research they wish to pursue with us before submitting an application.

We require that all applications are accompanied by a topic outline of approximately 500 words.

Alternatively, students may prefer to embark on research by studying for the Humanities MA by Research in a particular field within the humanities or the Law-Research LLM programme.
